“Jennifer Lopez had not yet made a feature film. Everyone assumes Selena was her first movie because it was released before Anaconda, but we were actually the first to cast Jennifer in a major motion picture. At that time CGI was far slower and more labor-intensive, so we had extensive post-production. While that was underway, Jennifer filmed Selena, which ended up releasing first, and its success certainly helped us. What none of us fully anticipated then was that Anaconda would go on to launch a global franchise approaching half a billion dollars in box office and ancillary revenue, with a new remake now introducing the story to another generation.”
